Here be Dragons!
MFB sent an ambitious, but newly minted or “scratch” crew to the OSCAR Dragon Boat Race at Docklands last weekend. We had totally legit looking team shirts AND we had someone who had actually been in a dragon boat before so we had high hopes!
The day started well, out of 30 teams we qualified second fastest for the Grand Final. But why stick to the tried and tested when there are so many more interesting ways of rowing out there? So we thought we'd try something new and fancy in the later races and while weren't actually moving backwards, it might have looked like that to the casual observer.
Despite the disaster in the final, a good time was had by all. None of us ended up in the drink so that counts as a positive! Congratulations to the whole team, Benjamin, Christy, Ryan, Adam, Abdul, Vaughan, Samuel, Zee, Kate, Simon and our valiant drummer Ellie.
The OSCAR Dragon Boat Race is an annual event to raise funds for the research done at Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital. If you'd like to support our fundraising for this very good cause please donate at our Just Giving page here.
