Container Ship Casualty

Having been involved in some of the largest incidents over recent years, MFB has developed a huge depth of experience in handling major container ship casualties (including fires and explosions) for Owners, Charterers, Operators and their respective insurers.

As with any casualty incident, these cases often involve advising on port of refuge issues, collecting witness evidence, managing media interest, providing incident management expertise, advising on General Average and detailed investigations into causation.

Successfully managing container ship casualties is, however, made particularly complex by the number of cargo interests involved, the varied nature of the cargoes carried (whether properly declared or otherwise) and being able to navigate a matrix of contractual documents. Major incidents, which are increasingly common, can require sophisticated claims management platforms to ensure that customers are kept fully updated and so that litigation, which often involves multiple jurisdictions, is properly managed.

To meet these needs, MFB has developed innovative technological solutions to assist container line operators, and their insurers.
