Simon Johnson

Simon was educated at the University of Southampton and BPP Law School, London. He qualified as a solicitor in 2005, having completed his training at a shipping and commercial litigation firm in the City of London. He joined MFB in 2007 and became a partner in 2014.

Simon has experience across a wide range of shipping and maritime law matters. His practice includes disputes arising under charterparties and bills of lading, P&I and Defence work, ship sale and purchase disputes, ship management contract disputes, cargo claims, collisions and marine insurance.

Simon regularly advises on sanctions-related issues. His work has also involved the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), flag State jurisdiction and ship registration.

Simon acts principally for shipowners, charterers, P&I Clubs and other insurers, ship operators, ship managers and commodity traders. He has extensive experience of High Court litigation and arbitration, including proceedings under LMAA terms and GAFTA, UNCITRAL, SCMA and SIAC rules.
